Ancient learning on linen

Ancient “learn” on linen; work in various stitches that girls were given to demonstrate how much they had learned the art of embroidery, usually - as in this case - the subjects were numbers and the alphabet. Very well done, old canvas, well preserved and with a new hook on the back for hanging. Taken from a Dutch country farm; probably the “young” work of the grandmother or great-grandmother, carefully preserved. Dimensions: 34 x 29 cm.
