Pair of antique Porte-Louis

Pair of Antique Louis holders; or Antique coin holders dating back to the end of the 19th century. They came into fashion in the mid-19th century when more than 200 million 20 Fr. gold coins were put on the market in France - and it is clear that it is therefore necessary to guard them jealously. The craftsmen invented these small and practical coin holders that close with a snap and have a small button to reopen them; the interior is lined in red velvet and has a spring mechanism that allows you to safely store the 20 Fr. and 10 Fr. coins respectively. Since the 20 Fr. coins bore the effigy of Louis Napoleon III, these objects took the curious name of ... Louis - holders.
