Diary of Private Robert 1943

Diary of notes of a soldier in 1943… like holding history in your hands, with shaking hands, reading about long marches and how cold it is on the North Sea - and then Berlin, the camps, bombings escaped, a night border crossing to finally return to Bordeaux… and more than the bombing alerts, feeling the tenderness of all those long days where it was noted “I received a letter from my woman” and maybe “with a photo of my child too”. Lives; other lives… distant, hard, but that you can feel so close by holding this notebook in your hand. It could have been everyone’s father, grandfather.
