Half doll powder compact 1900
There are objects that those who have our passion really hunt for: here is one, a little gem from the early 1900s, discovered in a Dutch manor house. It is a “half doll”; that is, nothing less than an ancient cardboard powder compact surmounted by a ceramic half bust of a lady, finely crafted and numbered on the back. Think of how much elegance and beauty in an object reserved for feminine refinement… the doll is as tall as a hand; under the skirt it hides (last photo) the cardboard box that was opened where the powder and sponge to moisten the face were stored. The clothes, as in the photo, show many signs of aging, while the ceramic bust is in absolutely perfect condition. Opening the box you can still smell the scent of a hundred years ago….!
