Lot No. 28 Old Victorian Photographs

We have recovered this ancient batch of 28 thick cardboard photographs all from the Victorian era (late 19th century) that portray men, women and children. Very interesting from a photographic point of view - see the artificial backgrounds, the poses, the trompe l'oeil - but even more so from a human point of view: stories within History; lives lived that in their gaze transmit to us a taste of distant eras. And who knows what it was like to pose in front of the lens, what the fears were - when photography was born, many thought that "it could steal the soul", because for the first time they saw themselves "exist" outside of themselves or the simple reflection of a mirror.
