Antique scarifier

A great piece of #medical #antique this evening ... always for the #whatis it column we propose this #ancient #scarifier with snap blades, it was used to practice #bloodletting: it is equipped with six blades that can be activated with a sharp blow of the hammer, the blood that flowed was collected in a small pewter bowl that often had engravings inside to indicate the quantity extracted. It is a rare and sought-after #instrument both for its scientific interest and for the folkloristic aspect that the practice of blood extraction brings with it.
